  • description: This journey didn’t quite go to plan… Setting off solo on The Jolly Roger with Bonny, I make my way towards the Grindley Brook staircase locks — but things quickly take a turn when the boat becomes stuck between chambers, leaving me in a genuinely scary situation. With the help of my mum and a fellow boater, I manage to get free and finish the staircase, but the experience leaves me shaken and having to slowly rebuild my confidence. After a much-needed reset in the lovely market town of Whitchurch, I continue on — soloing a seemingly endless run of lift bridges (a proper faff on your own!) before finally reaching Ellesmere in time for the Christmas parade.
