  • description: A huge breach on the Llangollen Canal near Whitchurch drained part of the canal and split it in two. Because of the breach, my narrowboat is currently trapped on the upper section of canal. In this video I visit the Llangollen Canal breach site after being invited by the Canal & River Trust to see what’s happening behind the scenes. I take a look at the emergency pumps moving water across the breach, the environmental work taking place, and the preparations before engineers can begin repairing the canal. The Llangollen Canal is a feeder canal carrying water from the River Dee to Hurleston Reservoir and the Shropshire Union Canal, so keeping the water moving is vital for the wider canal network.
