  • description: This cruise took me to the very highest highs… and then brought me right back down to earth. In this video, I set off from Chirk on one of the most breathtaking stretches of the Llangollen Canal, cruising towards Llangollen and preparing to cross the highest navigable aqueduct in the world — the incredible Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. This journey takes us over the beautiful Chirk Aqueduct, through tunnels, and under a lift bridge — a reminder that even the calmest days on the cut still ask for your full attention. But after filming this cruise, news reached us of a serious canal breach near Whitchurch, leaving boats damaged and the canal cut off from the rest of the network. It was a stark and sobering contrast to the magic of this journey, and a reminder of just how fragile life afloat can be. The video ends at Horseshoe Falls, where the Llangollen Canal begins — a place that quietly reflects both the resilience of these waterways and the community that lives on them. Bonny and I are safe, and while we’re currently disconnected from the wider canal system, there’s still plenty of cruising and adventure to be had up here. My heart goes out to the boaters affected by the breach — especially those who lost or damaged their homes.
